After my roller coaster day yesterday, I did not have high hopes for today. I was hoping to have a low key day and just fly under the radar. It turned out to be one of the best days that I’ve had in several months: I GOT A JOB!!! Can I hear “Woo Hoo!!!!” My bold e-mail to John Todd paid off today. I interviewed with another member of the staff and she felt that I was right for the job. I start January 24th and I am PSYCHED! I get to work from home and have the Western territory, which will be nice. I might have to miss a few nights at the Saucer, but I get to keep my insomniac hours. I believe in this job because I get to talk to these corporations and convince them to hire veterans. After my torrid experience in the job market this year, I feel very strongly that veterans should have a preference. I’ve been on that soapbox before on this blog, so I will not belabor the point. I am sure I’ll step back up on the box in the near future. For now, I can not contain my excitement. We’re celebrating this evening with Jack Daniel’s, “Top Chef” and “Seven.”
I had another personal victory today. After 4 months of persistence, I finally convinced Lisa, my physical therapist, to allow me to run. That’s right, folks. She has unleashed a monster on the treadmill. I might have a short period to run, but it will feel great to get moving. I have a lot of fat I need to burn, and it gets me one step closer to the triathlon. I can’t believe I finally wore her down!
I’m still up in the air on what I’m going to do about my stimulator. The new job puts a wrench in my plan to have surgery, but the new programming bought me some more time. It provides me enough pain relief to make me relatively comfortable. I’m leaning toward getting a new paddle lead, though, so I have the full capability of my SCS. I also know that I can work while recovering from this minor procedure. I was talking on my Blackberry the day I had a lumbar fusion! Yes, my name is Darisse and I was a Crackberry addict.

You are glowing through the keyboard. Congrats on the job and you should be proud that you took this initiative and followed through. THe Veterans do not know how lucky they are to have you as an advocate. K

Comment by Kim January 9, 2009 @ 2:55 amThanks Kim! What a relief! I’ll call you this weekend with details about the job. I’m psyched, and not just because someone wanted to hire me. I’m really jazzed about this job in particular. Lots of pressure, which I like. Thanks for your encouraging comments!
